Gideons Children’s Home was founded in 2007 by Pastor Newton Atela and his wife Caroline, who welcomed 32 orphans into their two-room house. What began as an act of compassion has now grown into a home and school serving over 360 resident children and more than 460 students in primary and secondary education.

Located in Ramba, Homabay County, Kenya, Gideons provides shelter, food, and education to orphans and vulnerable children in a community deeply affected by HIV/AIDS and poverty.

Gideons Primary School

Background

Gideons Primary School was established in 2009 in Pastor Newton’s stepmother’s old house with just a few orphaned children. Since then, it has grown steadily, adding new classes each year until reaching Class 8 within nine years. Today, Gideons Primary has blossomed into a thriving center of learning and hope for the community.

Academic Excellence

The school follows the 2-6-3-3-3 Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) in line with the Kenyan government system of education. Built on strict Christian values, Gideons Primary has developed a strong reputation for:

  • Consistent success in KCPE results

  • Holistic development of children – academically, socially, and spiritually

  • Ranking among the top primary schools in Homa Bay County (Rachuonyo Sub-County) over the last four years

Many of our graduates have advanced to Gideons Secondary School and some of the best high schools in Kenya, with several later joining university.

Church Ministry

Gideons International Ministries-Kenya is a Spirit-filled Christian platform in Western Kenya, dedicated to proclaiming the Gospel of Jesus Christ with power. Through this ministry, we have witnessed the mighty move of the Holy Spirit—bringing salvation, healing, deliverance, and life transformation.

Our gatherings are marked by:

  • Miracles, signs, and wonders confirming God’s Word

  • Salvation of souls and restoration of lives through the Spirit of God.

Gideons Starlets

Founded under Gideons Children Home in Homabay County, Kenya, Gideons Starlets Women Football Club was established with a vision to nurture young female talent and empower orphaned and vulnerable girls through sports. The club began informally in 2018, when a group of girls from Gideons Primary School and the surrounding community started playing football as a recreational activity.

What began as a simple pastime has now grown into a structured football program that provides training, mentorship, and opportunities for girls aged 10 to 25. The team currently participates in local tournaments and aims to compete in the Kenya Women Premier League (KWPL) in the near future.

Income Generating Activities

1. Agriculture and Farming-To ensure food security and sustainability, Gideons Children Home operates small-scale farming projects that provide both food and income:Crop farming, Livestock rearing, Fish farming 

2. Tailoring and Dressmaking Workshop -Gideons runs a small tailoring unit that trains older orphans and community youth in sewing and fashion design.

3. School and Training Services -Gideons Primary School, established within the home, serves both orphans and children from the surrounding community.
