About Gideons

Gideons Children’s Home was founded in the year 2007 by Pastor Newton Atela and his wife Caroline, who welcomed 32 orphans into their two-room house. What began as an act of compassion has now grown into a home and school serving over 360 resident children and more than 460 students  in primary and secondary education.

Located in Ramba, Homabay County,in Western Kenya, Gideons provides shelter, food, and education to orphans and vulnerable children in a community deeply affected by HIV/AIDS and poverty.

“The best thing about the kids here is that they are always jovial. They are at all ends of the spectrum which is really exciting. It gives us the opportunity to treat them as individuals. We know they’re created by Christ for a specific reason, and we get to work with their strengths and make them who they are.”
